All cancer survivors, families, friends and health care providers are invited to The University of Michigan Comprehensive Caner Center’s Survivors Day Celebration on June 4.
This annual event, held in conjunction with National Cancer Survivors Day, is a celebration for all survivors and those who have traveled on the journey with them. People have the opportunity to connect, swap stories, and inspire those recently diagnosed.
“It’s a great chance for people to connect with other people who know what it means to hear ‘it’s cancer,’ and make it through,” says Community Outreach director Martha Laatsch, M.S.W. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate being here today, to celebrate spring, new beginnings, and another year of survivorship.”
Keynote speaker Mike Verano, author of “The Zen of Cancer: A Mindful Journey from Illness to Wellness,” will present on “Sowing Seeds of Wellness.” This nationally recognized public speaker is a cancer survivor, licensed therapist and certified employee assistance professional. As a self-described “pacifist in the war on cancer,” he seeks to help those going through the cancer experience find hope and wellness in the midst of it all.
The event also includes an information fair, exhibits on survivorship issues, light refreshments and door prizes.
