Biography

Christopher Sonnenday, M.D., M.H.S., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, and Surgical Director of the Adult Liver Transplant Program at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  He is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Management & Policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Dr. Sonnenday received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University, and completed his General Surgery and Surgical Oncology Training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.  He received his Masters of Health Sciences in Clinical Investigation at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed a fellowship in Abdominal Transplantation at the University of Michigan. In June of 2008, he joined the faculty at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Sonnenday’s clinical interests focus on liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery. He is a member of the Multidisciplinary Liver Tumor Clinics at the University of Michigan, and the Liver Tumor Program at the Ann Arbor Veteran Affairs Medical Center. His primary academic interests include the study of frailty and sarcopenia in liver transplant candidates, novel methods of patient selection in liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery, and quality collaboratives in transplantation.
